Founded in 1966 in the heart of Hollywood, California, E.I. continues to be an innovative voice in the makeup industry offering an extensive hands-on education in all areas of makeup including: beauty, corrective, theatrical / live performance, high fashion photographic, television, film and special effects makeup. At that time, EI’s faculty was comprised of working makeup professionals who saw the lack of makeup artists in the growing entertainment industry. Apprenticeship was the usual way that makeup professionals passed on their art. However, the problem was that each makeup artist would only have one or two at most. In contrast to the system of apprenticeships practiced at that time, these professionals provided much-needed makeup artistry training in a school environment. EI has paved the way for the education and training of professional makeup artists. Furthermore, we continue to set the standards by which those in the fields of fashion, film and television work. Our goal is to continually set the bar for our instructors and programs ever higher, so that our graduates will always be the most sought after and respected artists in the makeup industry.
